Each month members of FILMCLUB will review films for BAFTA Kids Vote

Everything from new releases to classic films and world cinema! This month, Filmclubbers have reviewed The Muppets – if you’re a fan of all things Muppet related, why not also watch our interview with Miss Piggy.

Here’s what two FilmClubbers thought about …The Muppets

Ruby Featherby – aged 10

“Mahna Mahna do doo do do do…The Muppets are back and better than ever.

Walter, who is the biggest Muppet fan in the world, is really upset to find out that the Muppet studios are going to be knocked down so that a nasty crook can drill for oil there instead. This is where the story begins.

Walter, with his close brother Gary and his beautiful girlfriend Mary, go in search for Kermit the Frog to help get the old gang back together to try and raise enough money to save their studio by putting on one last Muppet show. But will their time run out? And can they raise enough money to save the studios?

Whether you’re a Muppet fan or not you’re going to love this movie. I can guarantee that you’re going to be laughing out loud. The film has a great cast including all the old Muppet favourites and human guest stars including a very funny Jack Black.

The main characters Gary played by Jason Segel (Victor from Despicable Me) and Mary played by Amy Adams (Gisele in Enchanted) were perfect in their roles as a loved up couple.

The film is a musical delight, which wouldn’t look out of place on Broadway. You will be singing after the film has finished to such fantastic songs like “Life’s a happy song” and “I’m having a me party.”

Overall I give this film a fabulous 5/5 because it was great to have the Muppets back together in such an entertaining movie. Do do do doo!”

Lucy Harrison – aged 10

“The Muppets is a very funny film about a man called Gary (Jason Segel) and his younger ‘Muppet’ brother Walter (voiced by Peter Linz) who go to LA with Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams).

When they get there they find that the Muppet studio is rundown and, worse, there are no Muppets there. There hasn’t been a new Muppet show for 30 years. Walter finds out that there is an evil oil baron who is going to destroy the theatre unless the Muppets raise enough money to buy it back. So the trio go on a search to find all the Muppets and put on the best Muppet show EVER.

So, will all the Muppets make it back in time to put on the greatest show ever? Find out by watching another great Muppet movie. I love this great family film and I am sure you will enjoy it too.

I give this film 4 and a half stars because when it’s just the humans and there are no Muppets it’s a bit slow. But apart from that it is great and Miss Piggy, Kermit and all our favourites are just as fantastic as ever!”

FILMCLUB believe that films are great to watch with friends and chat about them afterwards.

The animal trainer who worked on Dolphin Tales answer questions about the movie

Abby Stone, the animal trainer who worked on ‘Dolphin Tale’ talks about her experiences of working on the film.

Dolphin Tale tells the story of a friendship between a boy called Sawyer and Winter, a bottlenose dolphin, whose tail was lost in a crab trap and is now struggling to survive without it at a marine hospital. The film is released on DVD this week and to celebrate some young ambassadors from FILMCLUB spoke to animal trainer Abby Stone about the movie.

Leonardo Bertamini – 9 Years Old

Could you explain further what a dolphin trainer does?

Abby Stone: Trainers spend the majority of their time building a positive relationship with the animals they care for. Play sessions, water work, and husbandry (medical management) behaviours are the primary focus of the animals’ care.

Trainers also focus on physical exercise to maintain good health as well as cognitive behaviours to stimulate the animals and assist with research initiatives. Trainers are responsible for the dietary and nutritional needs, exhibit maintenance, water quality, record keeping, observations, environmental enrichment, public presentations, animal/guest interactions, public correspondence and other office work.

Alanna Vinnal – 10 Years Old

Did you always want to work with animals when you were at school?

Abby Stone: Yes, working with animals is part of who I am. I was in middle school when I decided I would be involved with marine mammals.

Louis Mullens – 10 Years Old

In the movie did you train Winter to act, or did she just seem to know what to do?

Abby Stone: The majority of Winter’s “lines” were behaviours she naturally does on her own. The director of the movie, Charles Martin-Smith, would observe poolside Winter playing and basically wanted to capture the real Winter on film.I guess you could say that Winter wrote her own script.

My job was to ensure Winter’s comfort and keep it fun during filming so that she would behave as she normally does. She also learned to do certain key behaviors on cue to follow along with the other actors and their lines.

William Price- 10 Years Old

Did the dolphin like making this movie?

Abby Stone: Winter was completely comfortable and willingly participated in the scenes. She was drawn to all the action and very intrigued with the camera. It provided her with new, positive experiences that were shared with trainers who guided her along the way.

FILMCLUB believe that films are great to watch with friends and chat about them afterwards.
