We chat to the people who star in some of your favourite films and tv shows, we interview the celebs on the red carpet and we hook up with the people behind-the-scenes to find out how all those film, tv and video games get made in the first place! At BAFTA Kids’ Vote, we want to hear from you! Each year ahead of the BAFTA Children’s Awards we host a big vote on the site which gives YOU the chance to have your say and vote for your favourite film, tv show, video game and website of the year. Last year over 400,000 of you voted (take a look at the results!) and this year we want even more of you to tell us what you think!

The big vote will take place in November 2012, but don’t despair because each month we run a series of mini polls which let you tell us all about your favourite things. Vote Now!

It’s always fun to win stuff which is why on BAFTA Kids’ Vote we like to run lots of competitions. Just recently we gave away a Nintendo 3DS to one lucky quiz vote winner. Did you miss out? Our friends over at First Light have created a brilliant set of videos which are designed to help all you young, budding film makers learn more about the process of filmmaking.

We’ll be uploading a new video to the site every Friday so don’t forget to check back so you can watch the whole set.

The third in the series, ‘How to use a camera’ looks at using a camera and includes some information on how to make your films look really professional by using ‘the rule of thirds’ when thinking about composition.

First Light is an organisation that works across the country to provide opportunities for young people to get involved in filmmaking activities. They worked with Nice Monster to produce a series of ‘How To’ short films.

Each 90 second film provides top tips for budding film makers looking at areas such as film structure, storyboarding, direction, camera techniques, editing, sound and lighting.

The Sheffield Film Festival for Young People

Join BAFTA Kids at this year’s Showcomotion Children’s Festival in Sheffield where we’ve got some great events and guests lined up.

On Saturday 26 May at 2.30pm we have a screening of Sinbad, an epic fantasy drama starring Elliot Knight who’ll also be joining us for a Q&A afterwards.

Then as part of schools week on Wednesday 30^th May we’ve got a brilltastic double helping of Sadie J where we’ll be joined by producer Simon Nelson and other members of the cast and crew. The fun starts at 10.00am with a screening of Sadie J followed by a Q&A and then at 11.30am we have a comedy writing workshop with our two guests.

Suggested age 10-15 years. Please note, each child attending who is not a member of a school party, must be accompanied by an adult.

Not a big fan of superhero movies? Neither was I until I saw The Avengers in action.

I recently went to see the film Avengers Assemble in 3D and it was one of the greatest films I have seen in the cinema in a long time. For a start, the cast is an amazing ensemble of huge stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson and many more. The Avengers is such a unique superhero movie in the fact that it is not just about one superhero it’s a group of them and the whole concept of the film just defies the usual, generic superhero movies where they fall in love, something bad happens and there’s a happy ending, the end.

It’s far much more than that, it is an action packed movie from start to finish with the addition of a female superhero which made it more appealing to the female audience as we don’t usually see women superheroes in films.  It also has an element of comedy and side splitting one liners which, for me, completed the film and made it all the more enjoyable to watch as it wasn’t constant fighting and action, it had these parts which would make you laugh making it come alive more and give you a real look into the certain superheroes personalities and characters.

Overall I think that Avengers Assemble was a fantastic film and amazing in 3D, set out to be the one of the biggest films of the year and I don’t see nothing stopping it from getting there. I could not possibly recommend this film anymore than I already have, so don’t take my word for it, go see for yourself…!

And if you’re a fan of superhero and comic-booked inspired films, then why not try some of these gems;

1.     Persepolis (2007, 12): Adapted from Marjane Satrapi’s brilliantly funny autobiographical graphic novel about a rebellious young girl’s experience of revolutionary Iran.

2.     Mystery Men (1999, PG): Hilarious film about a group of the most useless superheroes in history, who are called on when a crazed evil genius captures the real superhero. Filled with hilarious scenes and one-liners, you might not realise how uplifiting Mystery Men is until after you’ve watched it – at the time, you’ll probably be too busy laughing!

3.     Tekkonkinkreet (2006, 12): Stunning animation based on a popular Japanese comic set in the huge and dangerous Treasure City in which a pair of brothers fight the forces of evil.

4.     Superman (1978, PG): Brilliantly entertaining version of the Superman story, starring Christopher Reeves who strikes the perfect balance of humour and steely determination as the man in the cape. Made back in 1978, some of the effects of this superhero yarn might seem a little creaky now – but the story will still have you on the edge of your seat.

5.     The Incredibles (2004, U): Mr Incredible and Elastigirl are forced to give up their superhero lives and settle down with their family, but as danger looms, old habits die hard

6.     Iron Man (2008, 12): Millionaire arms dealer Tony Stark becomes a victim of his own industry, using his skills to become the Iron Man, and right the wrongs he has created.

7.     Thor (2011, 12): Based on the Marvel comic book, this slick, visually spectacular superhero epic focuses on the powerful warrior Thor and his enforced visit to Earth.

Silver screen and comic book superheroes Thor, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk are returning to cinemas this week in the long-awaited Marvel Avengers Assemble, and lucky FILMCLUB junior reporter Naomi Kee was first in line to chat to some of the film’s stars at the European Premiere!
