BAFTA Kids’ Vote is supporting the First Light Awards 2012

The films are in, the categories decided upon and preparations are being made for the First Light Awards 2012.

This year’s ceremony will take place on Monday 5th March at BFI, Southbank.

Young people from around the UK will make their way to London to celebrate their filmmaking successes at the most prestigious young filmmakers’ event of the year. Awards will be announced and handed out in the BFI’s biggest theatre space, home to the London Film Festival and many glitzy film premieres such as The Iron Lady and Never Let Me Go.

The Awards showcase the creative talents of young people across the UK. It is an inspirational event that celebrates the next generation of British filmmakers and this year’s judges include Sam Mendes, Danny Boyle, Rebecca O’Brien, David Heyman and many others!

First Light helps young people from all backgrounds develop skills, talent, creativity and confidence by giving them opportunities to create their own short films with the help of industry professionals. The films the young people create cover many topics and genres, and make use of today’s accessible digital technologies to tell their stories with them in control. The roles of cast and crew would have been undertaken by various members of the young people in the group. Each would have had the opportunity to write, act, shoot, direct, light, edit, produce and screen their own film.
