TV Presenter Anna Williamson was on the red carpet last night for BAFTA Kids’ Vote reporting on the biggest night in British Film.

Read her report from the evening below and come back later in the week to check out her exclusive red carpet video for BAFTA Kids’ Vote.

“The red carpet had been laid, half of Covent Garden had been closed off to make way for the hoards of TV crews and paparazzi, and the crème de la crème of the acting world turned out in their finest -  the glitziest night in the showbiz calendar proved to be everything I’d hoped for and more!  The Bafta Film Awards hit London!

Having been asked to join the Bafta reporting team, I was most excited to be getting up close and personal and reporting all the juicy gossip for the Bafta Kids Vote site.

I arrived at the Royal Opera House in the afternoon on Sunday, which is where the awards took place, to get myself settled in for the long exciting night ahead.  The Opera House is HUGE and after trekking my way around the rabbit warren of corridors I was escorted to my dressing room for the day – showbiz!

My first task was to venture out onto the red carpet (which was still being laid – they use glue to stick it down) to meet fellow Bafta reporter, none other than Miss Piggy!  In true Hollywood style she looked amazing and was very excited about her night ahead.  She was particularly looking forward to seeing George Clooney, she said she needs to keep her boyfriend Kermit The Frog on his toes!  I asked her about the gorgeous ring she was wearing on her wedding ring finger but she assured me it was merely costume jewellery and NOT a wedding ring…hmmmm.

Chat over with Miss Piggy and it was straight back to my dressing room to get into my posh Bafta dress, head into the makeup and hair department and get myself all glammed up ready to hit the red carpet.

Well done to all the stars, they braved the cold night with no jackets (I cheated and wore mine!) and they all looked stunning!  With hundreds of TV crews and journalists all jostling for the best spot to get the best interviews, I joined the masses too.  I was lucky though, as my crew and I had been given a raised position right opposite the main door so it was perfect for celeb spotting.  I saw all the stars as they made their way down the red carpet, my favourites being Chrisina Ricci, Daniel Radcliffe, Ralph Fiennes, Jim Broadbent, Naomi Harris, Jamie Campbell-Bower and of course George Clooney and Brad Pitt!!!  George was so close I even got to smell his aftershave AND he definitely smiled at me, at least I’m pretty sure he did.

Once the A listers had made their way into the theatre, it was time for me to pack up my reporting duties and head on in to enjoy the show too.

And what a show!  Set in the uber glamorous Opera House I felt like a true star perched on the balcony enjoying the surroundings.  Singing legend Tom Jones opened the show and old hand Steven Fry hosted.  It was a great night for silent movie The Artist which scooped countless awards but it was a good night also for film making in general.  A night to be proud to be British!

So after rubbing shoulders with A list actors, swanning around in my swanky dress and watching one of the biggest awards ceremonies in the film world calendar, it’s safe to say I had the BEST NIGHT EVER!  Thankyou Bafta, here’s to the next.”
