Did you know that Newsround has been going since 1972?
Or that when it started it was
called ‘John Craven’s Newsround’ (that’s him on the phone!)
BAFTA wanted to celebrate the fact that Newsround turns 40 in April next year by awarding them a very special BAFTA at the Children’s Awards on Sunday 27th November.
Newsround used to be on just two days a week but over the past 40 years it has grown and grown and now over 800,000 of you watch it.
And here’s another fact for you: Newsround was the first British television programme to break the news of the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger on 28 January 1986 when the shuttle exploded just 15 minutes before the show aired.
